Working with Clay/Glass constructions
Most of my new work uses some form of recycled glass. Around the mid 1990s I decided I would primarily work with recycled glass on my personal work, when possible. Recycled glass comes in many forms, with different shrinkages and melting rates. I tried murrini blowing with sheets of window glass. The wedding cake is tempered window glass. I was introduced to Bob Kirby around 2001, a very knowledgeable project engineer who offered advice and consultation on recycling market development. I organized a workshop with Bob at the Crucible to show us how to mix ground bottle and window glass with clay to make 3 D shapes. And started using the process in my work. If fired just right, the glass bubbles on the surface of the clay like water drops. My dream is to build a large building using this process.

How can artifacts of a wedding be adapted to ecological use for two biologists marrying?
The bride’s parents designed a recycled glass wedding cake that could be later transformed into a bird bath and cake slices that became keepsakes for guests. I facilitated the fabrication process.
